Members of the Fincastle Chapter eagerly attended the Virginia Division Conference held at the Dulles Marriott, October 3-6, 2013. The convention was graciously hosted by the chapters in the Second District and was well attended. The Fincastle Chapter was delighted to learn that it won this year’s award for the chapter ordering the most insignia!  This is a great honor for our small chapter!suzie and loretta

The Historical Evening program included the bestowal of seven Crosses of Military Service: three to World War II veterans, two to veterans of the Global War on Terror, one National Defense Medal, and one medal for Armed Forces Expeditionary Service in Korea. Mr. Eric Buckland, author of several books, gave the evening’s historical presentation on “Some Mosby Rangers and Their Ladies.” Following the presentation, Division Historian Deborah Lundeen presented the Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal to Mr. Buckland.mosby

The highlight of the convention, however, was in the election of new officers on Sunday, October 6. The Fincastle Chapter Daughters heartily endorsed First District’s own Suzie Snyder for Division President. Mrs. Snyder, member of the Roanoke Chapter, most recently has served as Division Vice President. We look forward to her two-year term and supporting her in her endeavors!

The Fincastle Chapter is grateful for the many donations that were made during the convetion to our project for conserving the Botetourt Dragoons flag. Donations were approved by the Virginia Division Granddaughters Club and the Great-Great Granddaughters Club.  In addition, several individuals donated to this fund. We thank you!

The General Convention will be held in November 6-11 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
