This past Saturday, Chapter members visited the new branch of the Museum of the Confederacy in Appomattox. The museum opened at the end of March and if this past weekend was any indication, has been drawing crowds since! We enjoyed Howard Gregory’s  informative lecture on the role of railroads in the Civil War, as well as the museum staff presentations on ladies apparel during the period and accoutrements of the common soldier.

One of the most exciting displays for our group was the restored Caroline Greys flag! This flag is quite similar in design to the Botetourt Dragoons flag that is currently in need of conservation. Only a few years ago, the Caroline Greys flag was in a similar condition. Conservation efforts restored the silk and painting on the flag and for the first time in 35 years, the flag is on display. The Fincastle Chapter is hopeful that its efforts to raise funds for the Botetourt Dragoons flag is as successful.
